Threes

A merge puzzle in which the player slides numbered tiles to combine matching pairs and multiples of three.

Origin and context

Released in 2014 by Asher Vollmer and Greg Wohlwend. Threes predates 2048 and was the direct inspiration for it. The mechanic differs slightly: Threes pairs 1 with 2 (to make 3), then doubles thereafter; 2048 only pairs equal values.
