2048

A single-player score-attack game in which the player merges matching numbered tiles on a 4×4 grid to reach a tile of value 2048.

Origin and context

Created by Gabriele Cirulli in 2014 as an open-source clone of Threes. Mechanic: slide all tiles in one direction; same-value tiles merge into the next power of two. The titular "2048" tile is a milestone, not a hard win — most players continue to 4096 or higher.
